Santa Barbara Film Festival This Saturday!

etnies is sponsoring two great surf films (Sliding Liberia and One California Day) which will be shown at the Santa Barbara Film Festival and features: the Malloy brothers and surfer/artist/etnies team rider Chris del Moro. If anyone is up for it, there is an after party with some pretty sweet bands and dj’s who’s music was featured in the films...

Winter X Games PacSun Lounge: B4BC Auction

Girls Learn To Ride (GLTR) and Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (PacSun) are pleased to announce the launch of an eBay online auction from Jan. 14-20, 2008, benefiting Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC). The auction will feature unique, one-of-a-kind packages from top action sports brands, including several limited-edition items that can't be found in stores. Each package will also feature a PacSun gift card and passes to the PacSun Lounge at Winter X Games in Aspen, Jan. 24-27. Proceeds raised from the auction will go directly to help support B4BC's breast cancer awareness and educational outreach programs.

Several action sports heavyweights, such as Bonfire, Burton, DC, etnies, FOAM Magazine, Osiris, PacSun, Rossignol, Roxy and Vans, have stepped up in a major way to help raise money to support the cause.

In addition to the auction, a VIP party benefiting B4BC will take place at the PacSun Lounge Presented by GLTR, Friday Jan. 25th during the Women’s SuperPipe Snowboarding and Skiing Finals. Although invite only, several special party passes will be available through the online auction. Interviews and photos of top pro athletes from this event will be posted on the GLTR website the whole weekend of X Games.

“X Games will be the best female snow event of the year!,” says Tracy Cioffi, senior marketing director, PacSun. “We’re excited to be able to partner with GLTR and support B4BC and their mission to increase breast cancer awareness. Hawaiian Jamie O'Brien Receives Multiple Nominations!

HALEIWA, HAWAII - (January 14, 2007) - The greatest surfing performances of the Hawaiian winter were honored today as the finalists were announced in the first Freewave Challenge presented by Billabong. Five nominees per category were revealed in a pair of event divisions - the Best Tube Ride and the Best Performance Ride - culled from over 120 video clips submitted of every good day on the North Shore of Oahu during the months of October, November and December. The finalist clips can be viewed at the event website at FreewaveChallenge.com.

The finalists were selected based on a combination of popularity by the viewing public and input from entered surfers and videographers. The final rankings of the top five nominees in each category will be voted on by a large academy of surfing experts including all the surfers and videographers in the event plus many top surfing journalists from around the world. Ballots will go out to the academy later this week.

Not surprisingly, local Hawaiian surfers emerged with five out of the ten nominations, including Jamie O'Brien, who has two different futuristic maneuvers up for the Performance Award. Other North Shore residents up for consideration include Kalani Chapman for a huge air, Sunny Garcia for a long barrel, and Garrett McNamara for his unique backside tube ride at Pipeline on a huge Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) board caught using an oar.

South African phenom Jordy Smith has been nominated in both event categories for a long, pumping tube ride and for a smooth double-grab aerial maneuver. Other overseas contenders include one of the bigger barrels of the season by Timmy Reyes of Huntington Beach, California and an aerial 360 reverse maneuver by Gulf Coast surfer Sterling Spencer of Pensacola, Florida. Hard-charging Anthony Walsh of New South Wales, Australia was nominated for a smooth backside no-hands tube ride.

The final rankings will be counted down from fifth to first places beginning February 1, 2008. Surfers and videographers will share $40,000 in prize money including the first place surfer check in the amount of $9,999.99. Jamie Takes 1st and $50,000!

Jamie O’Brien is a little bit wealthier after taking first place and $50,000 last Saturday in Da Hui Backdoor Shootout! Jamie scored an 11.4 to take the lead over Bruce Irons. On Jamie's last heat he stuck a backside rodeo on a 4-foot Pipeline corner after yet another deep Backdoor barrel.
